We and the books refer to the ‘wise men’ or ‘wise old man’ but I do not believe age & wisdom are synonymous. I have come across young people that are incredibly wise and older people who are incredibly stupid/who have no wisdom, never mind so called common sense.

Why is that? I believe it is linked to poor or lack of active, intense, analytic listening i.e. the people who listen but not really hear and/or think about that they are hearing. It’s a bit like an investment: you could invest the same amount of money in two separate investments (‘A’ & ‘B’), but because the choice of the one investment (A) is more wisely made and nurtured, it may attain the same growth/return in e.g. 20 years as the other investment (B) over 40 years. The intense listener who hears & not just listens will acquire the same or more wisdom in 20 years than the other person (Poor listener) will acquire in 40!
