What is the difference/is there a difference between the two?
Let’s look at the definitions:
‘Attitude’ is defined as ‘posture of body’; ’way of thinking’; ‘disposition’; ‘settled behaviour’; ‘settled mode of thinking’
whereas
‘Aptitude’ is defined as ‘talent’ (Strange enough ‘apt’ is defined as ‘suitable’/’appropriate’); ‘fitness’; ‘natural propensity or talent’; ‘ability to acquire a particular skill’
I believe the above shows that there IS a difference and the key word is ‘settled’ i.e. a pre-conceived perception and THAT is going to be hard to change UNLESS that person as the right aptitude! As the saying goes, you can’t/it is very hard to teach an old dog new tricks!
So when you choose a person for sales, make sure he/she has the aptitude first as attitude will come naturally for such a person – being a good ‘shop front’ and friendly with clients regardless of personal circumstances will ‘flow’ from the heart rather than be an artificial ‘learnt’ ‘experience’ – going the extra mile comes naturally to such persons, whether on the phone or ‘one on one’.
